Gingham Patchwork Stocking
This is the first stocking I made for my collection, that really started my obsession. It was inspired by the stocking my godmother made for me, which was in the style of a Victorian crazy quilt.
It's all scraps, built up piece by piece, seeing what fabrics look good together and what scraps fit in the right place. I love the timelessness of the fabrics, they can't really be pinpointed to a certain era.
I've still got the stocking my godmother made me, but it lives at my mum's house. I really hope whoever gets this one will cherish it for many decades, just as I have with mine, and will perhaps pass it on to the next generation.
In my house growing up, everyone had a stocking on Christmas morning. Stuffed with little presents, satsumas, sugar mice and chocolate coins, they helped kick the festivities off on Christmas Day (and also keep the kids occupied whilst coffee is being made).
If I'm hosting Christmas I still make sure everyone has a stocking, including guests.
Every patchwork stocking I make is individually hand made and completely unique.
The fabrics used are a mixture of offcuts, reclaimed fabrics, and fashion industry excess.
Lined in calico and finished with French seams, they are sturdy enough to be used for years to come and passed on to the next generation.
Measures approximately 55cm x 30cm.
